Drawings

These could be scanned images or pdfs.

Photoscan

Several hundred sharp photographs required, keep the ISO and F-stop the same throughout the shoot so that the software can match the photographs.

DigiMap

DigiMap is a source of digital maps of the UK, along with 5m contour data and approximate building heights.

The data needs to be used in dwg format and trimmed in AutoCAD, save as an older version of dwg (2007), before being imported into Revit or SketchUp.

DigiMap Help

Urban planning, how towns and cities take shape, based on; economy, environment, health and sense of place.

Contours

Available as 5m contours from DigiMap in dwg format, these contours already have the height set, or Openstreetmap.org

Building Heights

DigiMap flat roofed buildings based on LiDaR data

Contours

Available as 5m contours from DigiMap or Openstreetmap.org. Geolocation can be used for small areas when contour data is not available, use the layers pallet to show the terrain save as SketchUp 7 and open in Rhino, this will convert the terrain to a mesh that can be saved as a dwg and reimported into SketchUp or Revit. This video will show how to convert SketchUp terrain into contours within SketchUp, slices for the laser cutter can also be produced in a similar way.

SketchUp

This is a Lynda.com video course specifically for architectural modeling.

Building Heights in SketchUp

Placed on google terrain.

AutoCAD

AutoCAD is needed to crop the dwgs download from DigiMap, it is also very useful to tidy up plans and elevations exported from Revit.

AutoCAD Photoshop

This could be a long piece of text describing how to use Photoshop with AutoCAD or what the video will explain.

This is probably best shown in the video window section of the interface.

Revit can be used for massing models, 3D models from which plans sections, perspectives and detail drawings can be produced.

Renders in Revit or in the cloud or through the VRay plugin. STL files can also be exported with elements hidden or cropped with the section box.

Revit Contours

Topography from a trimmed dwg saved in dwg 2007 format, the contour data from DigiMap is a 5km square which will slow down Revit or crash it.

Rhino

Modeling a curved building using Rhino and links to a Lynda.com video on using Rhino.

DigiMap in Illustrator

Great for combining digimap vector graphics with photographic images.

Illustrator

Great for adjusting line weights
Filling regions with colour
Adding your own touches

InDesign

Is a layout tool that can be used for a single page or poster through to a multi chapter book or even an ebook.

PDF

PDFs are great for distribution and InDesign allows the the content of the PDF to be tailored to specific needs by selecting resolution or including vector based files that can be reused in CAD software.
